Do you want to get out of the summer heat and into a cushy, air-conditioned office job? Asher College’s business programs can help open the door to an office career. Asher provides students with the fundamental skills and hands-on training needed to succeed in a business environment. Students have the opportunity to gain advanced knowledge of current Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications. Students can also learn Quickbooks and an introduction to modern accounting and business theories and principles. These skills and certifications will help students begin a career as a bookkeeper, accounting clerk, administrative assistant and more.

Now is as good a time as any to enter into these careers. According to the Unites States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks is projected to grow 11 percent and employment of secretaries and administrative assistants is projected to grow 12 percent from 2012 to 2022.

As shown left, bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks earned an average median income of $35,170 in 2012, reaching a salary high of more than $54,000 annually. Secretaries and administrative assistants earned an average median income of $35,330 in 2012, reaching a salary high of more than $57,000 annually.

Due to their wide-spread usage, knowledge of Microsoft Office and Quickbooks can give you a competitive advantage in the workforce. According to a recent Microsoft report, demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office is still one of the most requested software skills by employers. Ninety-one percent of hiring managers consider certification as part of their hiring criteria and five times as many high-growth/high-salary positions require experience with Office than all non-Microsoft software skills combined. In addition, the report found that communication, integration and presentation skills (CIPs) are required for about 40 percent of all positions studied. As the leading accounting software in the United States, knowledge of Quickbooks is also extremely valuable. According to Intuit, 80% of small businesses and millions of people use Quickbooks.
